Healthy Teas: Some Teas To Tease You

This is a re-post from December. I thought this might be a good time of year to be reminded of healthy teas.

Green tea, White tea, Bancha tea. The health benefits of green tea have been widely reported. Here’s a link to more information about green tea: http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/health-benefits-of-green-tea.  And another: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=146. Green tea has about 70% less caffeine than coffee, depending on the variety of green tea and the brewing time.

However, chances are you haven’t heard much about white tea or bancha tea. White tea has been reported to have more antioxidants than green tea  and significantly less caffeine http://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/articles/804230/highantioxidant-teas-green-tea-white-tea-red-tea-and-more. Bancha is said to have “miniscule” amounts of caffeine. Bancha has many of the benefits of green tea. The variety of bancha that I am familiar with has a “woody” flavor. http://www.therighttea.com/bancha-tea.html I prefer my tea iced.
